Hello Audifans,

 

Has anyone built a 2.5 liter 3b/AAN engine? If so did
you start with 
the VW
2.5 Liter Block? I think that VW has forged rods but I
do not know if 
they
can withstand 100 horses per rod. I think that the
rods are 159MM in 
length
and are the same as the 2.0 Jetta rods. The pistons
from a twenty valve
might be usable if you were to put a reduction bushing
in the wrist pin 
slot
of the connecting rod. Otherwise, you are looking at 2
grand just to 
get
started for pistons and rods.  Any input would be
greatly appreciated.

 Welcome brother Karl, I'm in the middle of doing
this. But I'm boring out to 83mm so that makes it a
2.6l. But yes EV lower end. A few things need to be
done,
oil squirters need to be installed, turbo bung needs
to be installed, Rods aren't expensive..$900'ish,
pistons aren't expensive $700'ish, boared out to 83mm
Rs main & rod bearings, ARP studs, widened HG, & a few
other things as well.

 Top end is AAN. The only thing I'm doing non stock to
the top is..or are the valve springs. Everything else
stick AAN.

 To be honest I think too many people f'ed up these
motors in the beginning..& theres a miss conception
about these motors. It's not difficult..just difficult
on the wallet.
Build it.
