[s-cars] Winter tyres and wheels

Generally agree with all above, i.e. narrow/tall, cheap set of wheels.

Taka does a nice job describing the environmental conditions aspect
on deciding upon WHICH tire to get.

As for size, if you're running stock brakes, then Dave's suggestion on
getting a set of 15's Steel or the various myriad of Audi 15's that will
fit would be best. 195/65-15 snowies will make the UrS an unstoppable
tank. Mount a turret and cannon and you're all set.

IF you have or are contemplating upgraded big brakes, then you MUST
take your brakes into consideration. For example, my 993T calipers on
ECS Stage 3 rotors will JUST (we are talking clearance of a credit card)
clear my OEM 16 x 7.5 Avus rims. They clear, however. This would force
you up to a 205/55-16 snow, which is what I have.

If you have even bigger brakes, then you're stuck on 17's, in which case I'd
go with Taka's size recommendation. Note, on a 205, you REALLY DO need
to go for XL (extra load) rate tires. If you go 225/45-17 (OE size), you
don't
need XL.
