[many horror stories snipped]

One issue is you usually only get a prorated discount on anything with a
"normal lifespan".

However, the lifetime warranties can be good if you know you're going to
keep the car for more than a couple of years.

I have two lifetime warranteed (rebuilt) starters bought from VIP ($100
each) around 6-7 years ago. Last year, one croaked. Swapped in the one
from the other car to keep going, brought in the dud, they had both in
their records, tested once and said it was good, I said, "try it again"
and it didn't work the second time.

Had to go back since they didn't have one in stock, but it was free as
soon as it came in from the warehouse.

Keep in mind the "lifetime" for me and my coupe is going to be
approximately my lifetime, and it's a pretty good deal.
