[s-cars] Sirius/XM box mounting ideas

After many hours of agony trying to find a place, I mounted my Sirius radio
on the lower left dash panel, below the wood trim. It's easy to reach and
see there, but of course a passenger can't get to it. I made a mounting
bracket so all the holes that I had to drill were down low and won't be
visible when the unit is removed. I put the antenna on the roof just above
the cell phone antenna. Ran the wire into the trunk, under the trunk seal,
and up a channel in the rear window weatherstrip. I held the wire in the
weatherstrip with dabs of black RTV silicone every few inches. It's not
invisible, but if you're not at exactly the correct angle it doesn't attract
any attention.

For getting the audio to the sound system, I used a permanently-installed
casette adapter which I think delivers good audio quality. With some
tinkering I disabled the tape drive motor. I traded tape for an aux input,
so now when I select tape, I get Sirius.
