Hello, I've mostly lurked here, but I just became the proud owner of a 93 Pearl White S4 the other day. What a fun car this is so far! I'm a big fan of turbocharging, and I've spent the last couple years doing that to my daily driven Miata. Recently, I scrapped the Miata unibody and built a Lotus Seven type frame around that drivetrain, but that's another story altogether...
Richard Harris from this list got me interested in the urS4's, and I'd been looking for an inexpensive AWD sedan with good performance potential. My family is growing, and I think the S4 is going to fill the daily driver duties perfectly.
I'm in KY, and I found my car in Chicago. She has 98,000 miles, the body is straight, the ecru leather has been redone, and there are just a few minor items that need attention. I paid $6900, and I'm fairly pleased.
You can see her here: http://rivera.fotomojo.us/g/albums.php
Now, I've already found some help from various sites and forums, but I haven't found it easy to find answers to my questions, so here goes:
1. I know the recommended oil is Rotella, but what Mobil 1 grade do folks use? I'd much rather run to Wal-Mart when I need to do an oil change. I do plan to stock the proper oil filters, however.
2. What's up with one of the power seats working for only about 1 second before it stops and I have to wait about 20min before it will work again? Driver's side only. I know it's on an automatic circuit breaker, but what gives? Only seems to stop working if I'm trying to adjust the seat bottom, but when that stops, I can't use either switch.
3. This morning it was 44F outside, and I heard a fairly quiet knocking coming from the front of the engine somewhere. I was in a hurry, but got out the stethescope to listen. I revved the engine, and it knocked faster, but it sounds too quiet and muffled to be a rod bearing. Any ideas??? Oil pressure is good. My butt-dyno says the engine is making the right amount of power...
4. I've found conflicting info on the stock boost level and how much the ECU will allow, boost wise, before it steps in and takes control. Can someone set me straight?
Thanks for tolerating a newbie,
Mark
