[s-cars] Fuel Pump Replacement

Fellow S-heads,

Am about ready to tackle  fuel pump. I have read the AW write up by Dave and looked at Scotts site for some tips. 2 questions,

1. Is the special tool Audi PN 3214 really necessary to remove the basket, or will it be really obvious what needs to be done to remove the pump and basket together (I'm installing a new basket too).

2. For those that have done this in an Avant, with the 3rd row seat, which panels do I need to remove in order to access the pump. I'd like to avoid my usual MO, which is to remove everything in sight, even things that don't need to be removed.
