[s-cars] Question of Springs

Yeah, I don't know anything about the color codes on the springs, but I do
know my '92 sits a good 3/4" to 1" lower than any of the '93 and ups I have
seen and it certainly handles better in the stock form. I think this is
just Audi's foolishness on part numbers sometimes. I don't know why people
would spend good money to buy '92 springs if they were identical to the '93
and up...surely they would notice that the handling/height didn't change.
BTW, I also agree with your comment on the '93 to '97, in my experience the
'93 and '94 S4's seem to be a little stiffer than the S6's, but this is a
minor enough difference it could be something else other than spring rates.

Hi Vincent, Calvin, & Jamu;
I've been leafing through the latest copy of the Family Album, and that's
where I got the colour codes listed in my previous post. Vincent, the 1
yellow 3 blue (actually 3 violet) front springs are listed for a '92 Euro
AAH/ABC/AAR. Both NA and Euro AAN front springs were yellow/silver codes.
The Euro AAN sport front springs were silver/violet. It is interesting to
note that the Euro AAN cars had the option of 4 front springs. In addition
to the yellow/violet sport springs, there were 1 yellow/1 silver, 1 yellow/2
silver, and 1 yellow/3 silver springs.
It's quite possible that some '92s were shipped to North America with
different springs. There may be something else involved here as well. My '94
and my '97 have the same colour codes on the springs. The '94 rides lower
and a lot stiffer than the '97 and it always has, even when I bought it at
90k km. I've never been able to figure out what the difference is, although
I must admit I haven't really looked too hard. My carpool buddies have also
commented on the difference ("This thing rides like a go-kart, the black car
is a lot smoother").

Hi Calvin and Fred,
My set is 1 yellow 3 blue front and rear and, AFAIK, it comes from an US
'92. James also sent me a picture off list with the same colour code though
I don't know if it's of a US set of springs. So, apparently, your butt-dyno
is right Fred, '92 fronts are not the same as '93+.
Vincent.

So all the UrS cars front springs are the same in the US????? I would have
never guessed that judging from my '92's ride quality and ride height.

Jamu;
'92 rear springs are 1 yellow, 3 blue, p/n 4A5 511 115 AG. The front springs
are 1 yellow, 2 silver p/n 4A5 411 105 T.
'93 rear springs are 1 green, 1 violet, p/n 4A5 511 115 AD. The front
springs are 1 yellow, 2 silver p/n 4A5 411 105 T.
'94 to '97 springs are the same as the '93 springs.
These are North American colour codes. The Euro cars got different springs.

Hi,
Are there any identifying marks on UrS4 '92 springs to distinguish them
from >'93 springs? What are the height differences? (unloaded springs)
On the same topic... if I could not find 92 springs, is it possible to
raise the height of H&R's? I know there is a "collor" for the rear you
can buy at ECS, what can be done with the front to raise the height?
Short of going coilover...
Cheers, /Jamu.
