If you want a full features Linux based server try Clarkconnect. Here is

If you just want a big hunk of HD on your network, roll your own NAS
with FreeNAS.

All you need is a P3 running at 600Mhz or better and 256Mb of memory and
whatever HD sized as you need
I used a small Gateway machine running a Celeron 800Mhz and it moves
files around just as quick as my P4 3.2Ghz workstation can send them.
I also have a Windows 2000 server and just used as a file server ( it
backs itself up to the NAS) it has been stable and up for about 3 years.
