Some of us actually watched these races back then Taka! The early AWD
porsches really never grabbed a following, because audi didn't compete with them,
so they were stuck in AWD class all by themselves. They weren't fast enough
to win against the other classes, so didn't get a lot of exposure, but
ALWAYS came in first in *their* class! (doh)

According to Lewandowski book, of the 20 RE S1 Evo II's
RE 2 - Race IN-NY 18
Ran SMS 6 speed trim with shifter mounted electro-hydraulic clutch in:
  Finland 85 (Blomqvist)
  Semperit (Rohrl)
  RAC (Rohrl - DNF)
Then tested with PDC (K) trans - no competition

RE7 - IN-NZ6 Test chassis only
I have notes that show PDC was one the tests -

RE15 - IN-YA81 This was the Pikes Peak Prototype, always fitted with PDC
(K)

RE20 - Pikes Peak. My understanding was this was to be the PDK trans and
was fitted, but Audisport
ended up using the proven SMS 6speed with a lot of Rohrl tested
VC's FCR.

So, there are no known competition audis with the PD(C)K. RE2 was sold in
Austria to a private party, the PDC was removed prior to sale and the SMS 6
speed retrofited. As far as I know RE15 is the only S1 to still have the PDC.
Audi owns it.

A library full of awd trivia and information comes in handy sometimes

Thanks, you and Justy are founts of knowledge!

They had a one-make series for the 961? That must have been a big failure-
the M1 Procar series
didn't ever get off the ground because the cars were so freaking expensive.

Too bad we don't get to watch Supercup in the States- it's like NASCAR on a
road course, but with
Porsches. :-)
