[s-cars] Rear main seal leak - try dino oil again?

No experience there, just logic. You have two options:
1. You give a shot to whatever (dyno oil, seal restorer), and it may or may
not work but sooner or later you'll have to change the seal anyway (500$
labour + 5$ seal + may be 200$ clutch disc) and, sooner or later, it will
ruin your brand new turbo (1000$) because you can't use synthetic anymore
until you change the seal.
2. You don't give a shot to whatever and you change the seal (500$ + 5$ seal
+ may be 200$ clutch disc).

There's a third option, you give a shot to whatever, it doesn't work, you
switch back to synthetic and you doesn't ruin your brand new turbo, and
you're back to #2.

So, option #1 is 1705$ sooner or later, option #2 is 705$ now but no 1000$
risk. I'd rather go for #2.

There's still a fourth option: Turbos love sludge so there's no 1000$ risk,
but I'd rather not count on this one.

Objet : [s-cars] Rear main seal leak - try dino oil again?

Last week I reported that my clutch was slipping. Upon further inspection
it appears to be the rear main seal that is leaking and causing clutch not
to hold new RS2 power.

Currently running winter 5-40 synthetic. Since its (supposed to be)
springtime now I was going to switch back to mobil 1 15-50 synthetic. But I
noticed a case of old Penzoil 20-50 race oil left over from my old LT1 vette
days (yes I should have kept that car).

Should I give the dino oil a go first in hopes of abateing the rear main
leak?

I figure that I might as well try it as the case of penzoil will probably
sit there another 10 yrs.

I noticed on 'two-guys garage' this morning (I have no life) that bars-leak
has a rear main seal 'restorer' product that they used on an old T-bird.
But who knows what it would do inside a turbo?

Dave
