Aren't those guys supposedly answering write-in questions all the
time on the show and asking for people to send their questions? They
should have several
experts in the industry to research the question.
Specifically, I don't think a switch to dino will solve your problem,
even for a short term. I have never pulled a seal that was not rock-
hard and I agree the best
method of stopping the leak is the seal softener and swelling agent.
It would be best if you could apply directly to the seal, but I don't
see any adverse effects
elsewhere in the engine. Too bad it doesn't work on valve seals.
There are many products on the market for this, and even the sludge
and varnish removers
have a seal swelling effect. Even if not desperate, this approach
can buy you time to plan the repair job.
