[s-cars] A/C compressor and charge issue

The A/C compressor on my '93 makes a slight knocking noise most of the time,
and I can tell the charge is low, because the air coming out isn't very
cold.  I try to keep it turned off most of the time to prevent further
damage, assuming it's already not 100%.

I didn't see a sticker under the hood, but I assume these are 134a cars.  I
thought I might try to put in an oil charge and maybe a can of refrigerant
and see if that helps before I take it to the stealer, but I wanted to poll
you guys first.  I see a new compressor isn't cheap...
