[s-cars] Radio security code

Gregg,
You are correct, all they really need is the serial number. Your dealer
is mistaken or they just want an excuse to charge you more money. On
the newer Audis they now do need to connect to the vehicle and the
central VAG information system, but on your S car they might as well
plug into the coffee maker in their waiting room, as your radio has no
connection to the vehicle diagnostic bus.

Sometimes it is/was dealer policy that they need to see the radio and
vehicle, supposedly to make sure that the radio was not stolen.
Generally, they will not give codes out over the phone. It also may
take a little time to get the code as the dealers no longer have direct
access to that information.

Did you look REAL hard for the original card with the code?

I pulled my radio after it went to SAFE mode to get the serial number so
I could get the security code number. My local Audi shop tells me they
can not access the code without "plugging the car in" - thus requiring a
service appointment. The previous owner lost the code. This should not
be this hard! I thought all I needed was the SN from the radio. How do I
get the code?
