Dave,
Yes I'm only 33 years old and have only been playing with the urs cars for 7 years but in that seven years I have owned two urs6 avant (one which I did the full RS2 setup on as well as euro spring, lights and big reds), a 94 S4 that I put pauder rods in with a bunch of goodie's and a big hybrid turbo and big FMIC and one of the first to do a DSY 6 speed swap, two coupe quattro's (one that I transplanted the engine and tranny from the above 94 S4 and added custom header and a bunch more to make it the fasted car that I have driven to this day. I am young and no I wasn't around to build big block monsters like you and Scott but I love my Audi's and I do all the work myself on the urs, the B5 S4 I still need some help on some things due to not having the equipment in my garage but I will in time. The thing I love about this list is the wisdom and experience that alot of you older :-) crowd have. Try going to a B5 forum sometime, its painful and all they think about is HP number
s and 1/4 mile times.
So here's too a clean slate. I don't have much to add on this S60R since I haven't driven one. So how do you guys feel about the new TDI's coming this year? I know they will be pigs but if they put say a 3.0 in an a6 or a4 model do you think it will be a good alternative to the urs? It will be heavy on torque and thats always good. Gas mileage is good. Tunability?
Elijah

Elijah,
You may have some BTDT... but many of us have BTDT x 2 minimum compared to you. This isn't criticism... but a simple fact. So before you brush off the validity of a discussion, consider that. It is possible that I was building my first engine when you were getting potty trained. Scott's even older ;)
I love my UrS for what it is as well. SJ will never change my mind about that... or my preference for a manual transmission for that matter. That doesn't make the banter any less interesting... or entertaining.
Now, before you get all pissed off at me, remember this... you'll get old too. And then you can look at some younger enthusiast, smile to yourself, and then hopefully point him in the right direction. Not that Scott's direction is "right" every time... but it is certainly "enlightened" more than most.
Dave

Yea, a grasshopper that has been there done that, don't forget. Do you need a CPS BTW, I have an extra.

I bought one for $20 in a group buy. Its a splice in one but is the same part. No biggie in my opinion, sure not something to hold on the reliable side of this stupid discussion which I am still trying to figure out why we're in. Oh yes, Scott is in this conversation and there is always something better or more experienced in these topics, ugg, I love my urs, that is all for me, back to lurking :-(

In a nutshell... that CPS situation blows. As many miles as I have, and as much
as my UrS goes out in the sticks, it might be wise to buy one and carry it
along... even if it's $300.
As much trouble as I had finding a set of 225/45/17 snow tires in Montana last
year... I'd hate to have to find a CPS in a hurry.
Having no BTDT with that part, I may not even recognize the failure symptoms.

The 1.8t coils are 'better', but any vw stocks them because they are still a
known weak link. CPS isn't an if, it's a when, and IME, just when a guy does a
fresh tune up service for a long trip. The hardest part of the CPS IMO, is as
it starts to fail, it gives intermittent driveability problems that don't always
(rarely IME) throw a code. A real bitch to try to tell a guy that a 300USD part
'might' be the problem, and it requires cam gear removal, and the only
diagnostic for it, is replace with known good.

I ditched the POS in favor of the 1.8t coils. I've got 240k on mine... never
replaced the CPS either.
