I'm one of the geezers here ;-P, and I got a 2004 Jetta TDI for
commuting. I think when there is a TDI available with quattro, it
will be more appealing that you might think. I mean, after all, the
boys from Ingolstadt put one in the R8 and upgraded the model number
as a result!

The Jedi is more fun that you might think, big problem is spinning
the front tires with the torque. Plus it's very easily tunable, in
the same vein as an AAN, i.e. chip, turbo, injectors (the diesel
version of ignition), so much so that one of the first upgrades must
be a new clutch. Plus prolly some sort of limited slip diff. The
pisser with my Jedi is FWD, no AWD. Even if it were Haldex, it'd be
better than open diff FWD. Oh, and did I mention 46mpg commuting,
with the requisite Boston commuting speeds, either 90 mph or pahked?
Getting between 520 and 600 miles out of a 12.5 (useable) gallon tank
is just fine with me.

If I win Megabucks (unlikely, one must actually buy a ticket to win),
it would sure be fun to find a V10 TDI Toerag that got rear-ended or
rolled, and peel it's motor out to replace that gas hog Gallardo
motor in the new S8. Then the big prob would be finding a transition
that would both work and survive the torque.

it comes off lease in 2010...
