[s-cars] Speedo Info Needed: how to calibrate/adjust

Hi Tom,
There is some instrument cluster coding in VAG-COM for 5 or 6
cylinder cars
IIRC. That only affects the tachometer, though. The speedometer is
driven
from the electronic pickup adapter on the transmission, and provides
input to
the ECU, but not vice-versa. I haven't found anything in VAG-COM
that would
adjust the speedometer or odometer, in fact, it is designed to
prevent any
manipulation.
Looking at three speedometers, they all have the needle at rest just
below the
0 mark as you describe. I would have to believe the needle was
subjected to
impact g-forces that caused it to slip on the shaft. A sudden impact
is usually a
factor in a s-car instrument cluster appearing on the market.
Perhaps this is desirable since you might be able to turn a speeding
citation
into a faulty equipment plea.
Tom
