My manual says 19.8 gallons for the A6 quattro and S6, so yes, you did cut it 
close.

My light comes on around 16.5 gallons used; the most miles I've ever put on 
with that much fuel is 437.8.  Usually I get 24-25 mpg on the highway 
(MRC-chipped Avant).
