I should have added that after removing the bolts and screws, actually getting it to let go of the brackets can be a bit tricky, even if you understand how it is retained.  There is a good description with pictures on audidudi world:

Once I figured this out, I can take the bumper off my B5 in just a couple minutes.  Or should I say I could, as I finally managed to sell it yesterday!

Any one know how to take off the front bumper on an '01 A4.  Seems  that my 
kid pulled part of it off backing off a concrete stop.  I'd  like to take it 
off completely and fix whatever connectors are broken.
