When I graduated from college, I brought my '72 Volvo 1800E to a high
end aftermarket shop in White Plains for an alarm installation. The
installation ran long, and the owner offered me his car to drive for
the afternoon.

I don't know WTF he was thinking, but I was a 21 year old kid, and he
handed me the keys to a *new* 911SC. It may have had 2K miles on it.
Lease deal for the company, so I guess he didn't care that much.

Anyway, it was red.

It had high end Recaro seats and every time I shifted into second, I
turned on the seat heaters by accident.

That was a marvelous car. I didn't know enough about cars to know how
marvelous it was, but it was.

I was bitten then, about 25 years ago. I haven't gotten any closer to
Porsche ownership since then, except for perhaps the Porsche brakes
on my Audis. And I think I've only driven one Porosche since then, a
944 that let go of its timing belt within second of me starting it.
Hope *that* isn't a sign.

Anyway, there is a Porsche in my future somewhere. First I'll have to
get 2 kids through college and build the house of my dreams a bit
further away from the Boston suburbs. A house that uses a lot of
passive solar, wood heat, etc, and has a separate barn for car
storage, upstairs office, etc.

Just a dream for now, but there's just no room for a Porsche at my
current abode. Unless of course I completely redid my fleet -- sell
the A4 and the '99 A6, and buy a Q5 3.0 tdi and a 911.

Hmmm.
