Wow, taking hoses off. Sounds like a lot of work.

I just pop the hood and use the intake near the radiator. The air goes
to the same place plus there's nothing to unfasten.

Now you know you are getting air and spark. It's fuel or timing of
fuel, e.g. sensor that determines running state. The lazy bastard in
me says it's easier to test fit a sensor than it is to open the gas
tank.

but that's just me...  ;)
