[s-cars] I want my MPG

I'll second the sensor on the back of the head.  It's been the cause of poor MPG on 4 of the 5 audis I've owned.  And when that occurred, I also had more smoke coming from the tailpipe in the mornings.

The other indicator could be a bad thermostat, with it being stuck open (had that happen too).  Symptoms are poor mpg, temp guage never getting to normal (at least here in VT), and really poor heat.  But the mpg variance wasn't as great as when the water temp sensor went bad.
