[s-cars] I want my MPG

Mail call, Floyd. Now, listen up! Like when the Gunny holds mail
call on TV. :-)
Have you been getting a MIL (check engine light) ? It does come on
when you
turn on the key and then go out when you start, doesn't it? Have you
blinked out
any trouble codes or checked them with a VAG-COM ? A bad O2 sensor
will give
codes. Almost everything else that affects mileage will drop codes.
After you read
them, tell us what they are. What color is the tailpipe smoke?
Use that procedure to read the data on the climate control head,
especially the
engine coolant temperature to compare with the instrument panel
gage. If you
mess with the hoses and fittings on the back of the engine and the T
fitting that
holds the temp sensor, be gentle as these plastic fittings get very
brittle with age.
