I just replaced a four year old Compaq laptop with an HP/Compaq nc6400. I think it has all the features you are looking for including the finger scanner. It is amazingly fast compared to the old one. I have been using Compaqs since 1986 and have never (touch wood) had a fatal hardware failure. Dave F.
