I can guarantee you that it won't work.  The protocols are different
between the older and newer clusters.

Not to say that useful things can not be displayed in the older
cluster: see http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=scl&products_id=596
for a product I designed to display boost pressure and a few other
things in the cluster.

I looked into adding a V1 mode to my instrument cluster display, but
the ur- instrument clusters do not support arbitrary text or graphics
(not without major surgery to the cluster itself), which means that
the radar alerts would have to be transliterated such that e.g. "1001"
means forward K-band, etc.  Not very useful IMHO.
