The struts, strut bearings, dust boots, bumpstops, and upper strut mounts 
CAN be changed with the strut assembly still in place on the car. The only 
time you really need to remove the strut assembly is to change the lower 
strut mount. It's a tight fit to squeeze the bearings out but it can be
