You guys are no fun! What Audi is there that requires little maintenance? Pre tell. I'm dreaming a bit here on an RS6 but a realist too. Never plan to take a 2 ton machine and make it a track car. Just looking for a good commuter car for my 12 mile drive to work. Heck, it won't have time to overheat! My son needs a good occasional car for school too. I can see the hole shots coming now as he takes his teenage friends for under 5.0 sec 0-60 blasts from the schoolyard:)
Prolly go S8 bound I'm sure as the sucking depreciation sound of that car makes it more attractive by summer.

Anything that's hard to get to is going to cost you a ton in labor since the engine
is wedged in there.
C5 electrical systems aren't that great- climate control unit, radio, window switches,
sunroof switches, instrument clusters (gee, not much has changed in the 10 yrs. from
C4 to C5).
I'd be seriously concerned about the cooling system and its longevity in the RS6 (considering
that this was a major issue in the development of the car) and how the associated heat will
deteriorate everything else under the hood of the car. I've experienced this with a DSM- the
heat cooks everything under the hood and you experience failure of pretty much everything
rubber and plastic.
Sorry, I like the S8 better for a big slushbox sedan. That's a place where I'd really rather go
manual transmission and do a E39 540i/M5 or CTS-V, damn the reliability issues of both. I
don't know what I'd do in the snow, though.

as for the transmission, there are plenty of strong automatics.
