[s-cars] VIN split accuracy in US FA (was AC Compressor Zexel or NipponDenso)

Hi all,

So my AC compressor model question is partly solved. The AC compressor model
changed 10000 VIN above the VIN of the S-bitch. Now, can I rely on the VIN
split to order the AC compressor? Does anyone have experienced inaccuracy in
VIN split? I know model years are not that reliable but I was under the
impression that the VIN split was based on the actual component use on the
assembly line.

I know the best solution would be to look at the compressor part number but
due to time and space constraints, I won't be able to check it for at least
the next two weeks. With temperature going lower, the compressor clutch
started making a hell of a noise and I would rather order the compressor
sooner than later (it will be coming from US to Canada, so I have to order
it in advance) so I can have it replaced as soon as I find one day I don't
need the car.

TIA.

Vincent.

I have no clue, but I just checked the Euro album, and it seems to indicate
that ALL '96 5-cylinder cars got the Zexel. Here's a picture of the Zexel
(you can even see the correct Audi P/N!):

Thanks Eric,

Do you know of any visual clue to check which one I have on my car?

According to TFA, you're right near the break. The split is at VIN
T-046054/55, which were built supposedly sometime in 12/95. So, by the
book, you should have the Zexel, but you're close enough that I'd
personally want visual confirmation before making any commitments on
anything.

Hi all,

I need to know what compressor my car use and I have no access to the
family album right now. I could crawl under the car but the parking lot
is one day snow, one day mud, so I'd rather find another solution. The
S-bitch is an 11/95 Canadian S6. Based on the built date, can someone
tell me which compressor, Zexel or NipponDenso, does it use.

Thanks,

Vincent.

Ok Guys,

I've been sitting on this critique/impression for
awhile now.

I just want to thank the boys at 034 for putting
together a turnkey(no pun intended) rocket ship avant
for me.

Javad did essentially everything from getting my
bottom end built by his enginebuilder, to installing
his system into my car and programming it with a dual
switch, pump/race gas.

I highly recommend shipping your car to him for a
month or so so they can do their magic. I got the car
on a tuesday and took it to the track, after 2000
breakin miles, on a thursday. No oil consumption
issues, the 3071 worked well.

My Dyno numbers were very close to Marc Swansons
recent trip. It was tuned very conservatively at 325
whp on race gas. I'll be taking it back very soon to
get this thing really tuned with the full Monty.

Javad did alot of street tuning for me because that's
its' usual daily existence.

Here's a parial list of stuff:
overbored stock block to 2.3 liter
je pistons 8.5:1
Scat rods
coated bearings
radiused oil journals in block and oil pump
balanced crank and pistons

034 FMIC

034 BIG Oil cooler

034 Cold air intake

034 Stage 2c

034 High Power coils

Innovate WB02

044 FPump

Bored out AAN TBody

SPEC 3+ Clutch

Stay tuned for more!!

Thanks 034!!!!!
