Thanks, but Ian already sent me photos. Just need to get my hands on one
now...

Since my belly pan is actually off the car ATM while the S-beotch rests
(trying to see
WHICH part of my Fumoto is leaking, anyone ever have a leaky Fumoto
valve?), I can
take pics and some rudimentary measures of the pan. As for clearing a
hose, (as Robert
suggests) if it's soft enough sheet metal, I would think a large hammer
would do ;-).
BTW, the trap door suggestion would be awesome.

Does anyone have a good pic of the belly pan? Robert, I'm sure
something
could be done for clearance, so long as everyone with a FMIC had the
same
issue. My guess would be that the pans would be made to fit an
unmodified
car, and folks could trim and make minor adjustments as necessary. The
material will surely be relatively thin gauge aluminum, so modifications
would be simple with a pair of tin snips...

If sheet metal belly pans are developed let me suggest at least one
change
in the basic pattern. Provide a trap door through which the oil filter
can
be changed and oil can be drained from the engine. That would also
require
some sort of fastener to keep the door closed. Hinges and a screw or
two?
Also, at least in my case, there is a piece of pipe for my FMIC which
drops a little below the "plane" of the belly pan near the horn. It
would
be helpful to have some simple direct method of accommodating such
variations.

I got a slightly damaged clean one that could be used as a 'mold.'
I think it lasted about 2 weeks before my wife took it out. I ended
up
putting my original back on with zip ties.

Speaking of a sheetmetal replacement, does anyone offer these? I
might
be
willing to have some made here through work if there's enough
interest.
We
could maybe set it up as a group buy. The UrS4 I bought a few
months
ago
didn't have one, and I'd really like to make one instead of paying a
small
fortune for a piece of plastic. We even have louvering capabilities
here,
so the sky's the limit so far as design goes. I just don't have a
part
to
start with..... Anyone willing to help? I'm sure you all have
ideas
how
you'd improve the factory piece...

After the first time that I had to take it off and put it on to
change
the
oil, it never went back on again. That was 83k miles ago...and I
live
in
the Denver area as well. The only adverse thing that I know of that
is
quantifiable is that you don't get very good cooling from the
intercooler
with it off, lose a little power. I have been meaning to make a
sheet
of
sheet metal that just covers up the intercooler area but I just
haven't
gotten around to it yet.

Well, I had a belly pan. But it must have gotten ripped right off
the
car by
some of the deep, icy ruts we have here in Colorado. Ya woulda thunk
that I
would have noticed some sort of sound, but, nope. Gotta turn down
the
tunes,
I suppose.
It will be easier to change the oil this weekend with the bastard
already
torn off, but I'd like to replace it.
First, though, any problems if I don't? (aside from the obvious dirt
and
other junk spraying up into the engine compartment) I've got a bunch
of
travel coming up and there's no way to deal with it immediately. No
time
at
all. . .
And, what might I expect to pay for such an important part? I
suppose
that
similar year A6's will be the same (like 95s and 96s?). Me thinks
that
it
will be easier for me to source a used one from an A6 in these
parts.
And, if you live in these parts, (Colorado front range/I-70 corridor
to
Aspen) and have a used one, whatcha want for it?
Thanks in advance, all.
