[s-cars] license plate fascia (Avant)

Thanks Tom!
It sounds like another "common issue" to these cars.
The solution which looks best to me does not include painting. Since
I've got a shop with welders and metal to weld with, the best solution
for me is one which requires electricity and heat - maybe a drill and
a file. <g>
I'm going to TiG weld an aluminum "H" out of .125" x 3/4" aluminum bar
stock. I'll fasten the H to the car via the H crossbar using longer
#10 black oxide screws vs. the M5 screws there now. I will also apply
foam-back, double-stick tape for a belt and suspenders approach. The
#10s will easily reform the nylon inserts where the M5s now attach.
The H uprights will have holes both top and bottom where I'll use M6
buttonhead stainless screws inserted from the rear. The screws will
have extra length and will be nutted and locktited for use as locating
studs to mount the license plate and frame. I will use stainless acorn
nuts to fasten the plate to the frame.
It sounds complicated but now that I've got all the hardware it
probably took more time to write this all up.
another crappy hans und frans german solution thwarted by 'mercun ingenuity!
