Nice score on the pan!
Lets go back in the wayback machine for a few minutes.
Back in '97 or '98, shortly after I bought my highly neglected '93 S4, I
experienced an ECU meltdown. Supposedly caused by a few failing coils and a
POS etc..... My local wrench (who I no longer use for this and various
other reasons) could not diagnose the problem, so I was forced to trailor
the car to Prestige. After several days of them poking around, they gave me
the news about the ECU having gone south. Not wanting to pay the ~$1,200
for a new ECU, I asked if they might know of an available used. I was
eventually connected with a "Karl" who himself used to be a wrench at
Prestige and also had some connection with AOA and mentioned the Pikes Peak
URcoupes of great fame. Apparantly Karl had the ECU and various other
"stuff" laying around his personal garage. In fact, my now installed ECU
has "Karl" written on the case. Unfortunately, no fancy chip or anything
cool. We struck a deal and met up at Prestige to make the exchange of $$
and ECU. We chatted for a while, and I quickly realized that Karl knew his
shite. He told me he had retired from Prestige/AOA "a while back", and was
still poking around there keeping an eye on his son. Very nice guy.
Flash forward to '07, I'm gonna bet that you have now stumbled onto the
father/son team at their own shop. If this is indeed the case, I would
think they would be fine folks to work on your ride. Seemed to me that
Karl, if it's the same guy, knew an aweful lot about our fine motors and
cars.
So no definite experience with 5280 MS, but an interesting possible
connection anywho?
I'd do some more probing (verbal) and see if it's them. If so, you may have
found a goldmine of knowledge and skills.
HTH,
Ron Kirkham
'93 S4 (with "Karl"ed ECU) still not running!
