[s-cars] S6 no start

Dennis,

Speaking from experience when using the 301's, I would DEFINITELY test this
in the car (ign on and wired to the CPS) BEFORE buttoning up the front of
the motor.

First 301 I installed on a 93 //S4 proved to be a faulty unit. Removal of
the unit after the entire thing was back together confirmed faulty, not a
wiring issue. Luckily the units were $10 and I purchased 2... Needless to
say the second unit was *field* tested before installing.

1. Disassemble the harness side connector so they are just the pins (unless
you have a small enough probe)

2. Plug in new CPS to harness pins removed from the black and purple
connector as stated above(doesn't need to be mounted to the head, but I
grounded one of the rivets anyways, likely you don't need this step as I
doubt the rivet has a lead to the sensor) Make sure NONE of the wires (3)
are touching.

3. Turn on ignition.

4. No metal between the CPS should get you 5v on one wire, .1-.5v on the
other, and a ground wire.

I stuck my Spyderco in the CPS to make sure the .1-.5v lead now showed 5v.
Total should be 2 pins with 5v, and a ground. Any piece of metal should
work as long as its thin enough to fit inside the sensor window.

For those folks who have mentioned not knowing if they have a failed CPS or
not, this test can be done as well with the entire car buttoned up. You
need a bit of a flat surface, enough to roll the car around in 2-3rd gear
(if your solo).

Follow Steps from above with these changes
Step 1
Step 2, however there is no need to ground the rivet now
Step 3
Step 4 Roll the car in 2-3rd gear, watch for 5v off the signal wire (.1-.5v
before) If you don't see 5v on more than 2 wires your CPS or related wiring
is toast.

Dennis,

I used the CYHME301 on my 95.5 UrS6 when doing the timing belt. I should
have a couple extra but need to check. Hopefully I can remember where I put
them. I will let you later this morning.
