Aluminum under constant and extreme heat cycles will crack. Aluminum
carriers and hubs are lightweight for their strength, but will crack. As one who's
probably had Big Reds the longest (Carl Jerritts and I had these back in
1995), I can say that I see cracks in hats all the time. Haven't noticed cracks
in the carriers, but the design Carl and I used is a lot beefier than what
ECS used.
All that said, aluminum brake components (steel components too, ck those
cross drilled rotors) will crack, because this is a high performance race part.
Bill, I would be really surprised if after 5 years, ECS did or should do a
darn thing other than sell you another set.
I suspect that the RS2 carriers may last longer, but they sure look like
they will have some flex under heavy load.

I “think” I recall reading of issues with failing ECS caliper carriers.
So, whilst installing new pads on passenger side Saturday, I couldn’t help
but notice (very fortunately) that the 5+ year old caliper carrier had
multiple cracks almost shearing itself in two pieces. Yikes! Of course a
20 minute job has once again escalated to debacle.
Anyone know how ECS has handled this in the past? If I had to do it over
again, I would get rs2 carriers… and may yet still.
Bueller?
