What would be symptoms of a burned out cat?
There are no emissions here in SC!
Bad smell? Pollution? 
Any performance issues?

I know cats are typically mucho expensivo to replace.

Another problem to be concerned about, is whether or not the cat 
converter was destroyed due to the unburned fuel and excess heat.  If 
you drove the car 5000 miles this way, you will likely need a new one.
