[s-cars] UPDATE - Help - Can't shift into 1st or 2nd!

Something like this happened to a UrS6 at the Sundridge ice race several
years ago. We were running ice drags and the UrS6 got locked in second
during one run. We had a heck of a time getting it out of second gear and
then it was very difficult to shift first and second (difficult meaning it
took tremendous force to get it in or out of gear). All other gears shifted
fine. He took it to a shop and the linkage was fine. He kept driving it and
it shifted easier and easier until a few months later it was back to normal.
We used to kid him that his car had the rare self-healing option. Must have
been something in the tranny that didn't like being slammed through the
gears at high RPM and high wheelspin. Go figure.

Nothing looks bad in your pic, but the linkage bits that folks are
questioning are in the tunnel. A lift helps greatly, as does
exhaust/heatshield removal. On mine, I could put my hand on the lever
at the tranny and get it into every gear but 1 and 2, so that ruled out
the linkage.
I could actually get it into 2nd using the shifter in the car, but it
took hurculean effort (needed assistance from my legs). Also required
same force to get out of 2nd. Never tried it again after that. I was
stunned that the shifter didn't break off in my hand.
Get under the car and check the linkage. The apikol PDF posted before
has some pics that'll help you. I really hope you find a loose bolt or
worn bushing down there...

I have more info. I posted it on the Audiworld Forums so I could
include a picture. Check it out at:
