[s-cars] Hot Start: Episode III, Revenge of the Sbitch (longish)

Yes, and when you figure in the energy it takes to plant, harvest, and
transport the grain to the ethanol plant, the energy involved in
manufacturing the fertilizer to grow the grain, and the energy to distil it
into ethanol, I wouldn't be surprised to find it takes more energy to
produce the ethanol than ethanol supplies as fuel, and that's figuring the
solar energy to grow the grain as "free". Not to mention the increase in
food prices as grain is diverted to fuel use. In 1986 it was estimated that
half of the earth's photosynthetic capacity was diverted to human use. At
the time it was projected that by 2050 humans would be using 100% of the
capacity with little left over for "wilderness". The grain to ethanol
projects will accelerate this. Should be an interesting case study 20 years
from now.

Unfortunately a lot of states are using ethanol year round now. I never
have figured this one out...it produces 10% less emissions, but you have to
use 10% more fuel.....hmmmm...the corn farmer lobby sure is pulling the wool
over people's eyes on this one.

Ethanol in summer gas? I thought it was the other way around, ethanol
in winter gas.

In any event, my suggestion is drain the tank (safely, with a hand
pump, etc. transfer to another vehicle) and never EVER use that brand
again. Switch to something else that doesn't use ethanol.

Your car is fine. The gas isn't.

IMHO
