[s-cars] Climate Control - Damn the Snowflake

Fred,

Your description is almost exactly what happens to me, at speed snowflake on, get stuck in a traffic jam, smowflake turns off, jsut when you need it the most.

So:

Step 1 spray water thru the radiator and condensor from the engine bay

Step 2 Check Belt for tightness

Step 3 Check Fan Clutch

Step 4 Check the sensor that compares engine speed and compressor speed (where is this beauty by the way, is it part of the compressor or a separate part, and how much does one cost)?

Step 5 Find VagCom or try Climate Control Codes via CC head (anyone know which code would be the culprit/what channel)

That sound about right?

Just out of curiosity, what would low refrigerant do, just blow warm air even though the compressor runs all the time?

Thanks a million.

-manny

>Yup, I'll back Dave's explanation. I've noticed the same thing myself. Start up the car after it sat outside on a stinkin' hot day, AC engages, then snowflake goes out and AC disengages before the car is out of the parking lot. Get out on the street and get some airflow through the condenser, snowflake comes on and all is fine. Only happens occasionally on very hot days.

>Again... higher temps equal higher pressures. If your A/C is cutting out only at higher outside temps, my bet is that you're not pushing enough air accross the condensor. This could be for several reasons... fan clutch... electric fan... or a condensor plugged with debris.
