[s-cars] S8 pulling when stopped in Drive

I'm having an annoying problem with my 2001 S8. When holding at a red light
it pulls pretty hard --- so hard that if I were to let go of the brake I
would quickly cover the few feet to the car in front of me. Not only is it
obvious that the car is straining against the brakes but it makes it nearly
impossible to get a very smooth start. I initially passed this off as a
stallion pulling against the reigns but it quickly got old. This definitely
does not seem right.

The car seems to have the right idle speed, approx. 800 RPM and the problem
is present regardless of whether the engine is running cold or at proper
operating temperature.

The transmission was rebuilt before I bought the car a few months ago and I
have been wondering if something may need to be adjusted. It has also
occurred to me that some connection is missing, e.g., something telling the
transmission to chill when the brake-pedal is depressed.

Any ideas?

  Gísli
