I've noticed a few CC problems come up over the last few weeks, so I dug out
some information I worked out a year or two ago, tidied it up and put it on
a website.
In eight years of ownership, I've had five faulty servos and one faulty
climate control head - all repairable.
The faulty servos were always a result of brush problems in the motors - a
bit of dismantling, cleaning and reshaping of the brushes sorted those out.
The CC head problem was due to brush debris causing a short circuit in the
Central Flap Motor, which then drew excessive current from the regulator in
the CC head and cooked it. On opening up the CC head, there were obvious
signs of overheating, and a quick check with a meter showed 12V on the
incoming side of the regulator and nothing coming out the output side.
Replacing the regulator (just over 1GBP) cured the problem.
There's more information on the website:
- typical fault codes
- getting at the servos
- pinout for servos (motors and potentiometers)
- link to a pdf about servicing the servos
- spreadsheet of the pinout of the CC head
- circuit diagram of one of the output stages
- photos of the circuit board showing overheated components
