Greetings--I'm a transfer over from the V8Q list. Just about to buy a
2003 S8. Wondering if there is anything I should be especially careful
about.
It's black/tan with 70K. Has Nav etc. All things seem to work, no
fluid leaks (wow--even the heated rim works!) Carfax clear--one owner
to 55K, last owner put 15K on in 9 months. Mint body, avg interior.

Greetings New Guy aka Ken-
Sure there's a few things to beware of on these. Look for water smell
or damage in interior as cowl and A/C drains plug when parked outside
and flood cabin. You may not note any leaks as the belly pan tends to
catch most of them. Hopefully it's a non-leaker - they're prone from
the oil cooler (coolant), front diff (output flange), rear trans output,
and rear main seal. Only the coolant is a significant leak and most
will eventually, it seems. The other leaks just seem to weep and don't
even hit the ground. I call it "Audi //Sweat". You'd smell the diff
one as it burns off the cat usually.
Instrument clusters can fail rendering the car unable to start
(immobilizer), but this may only effect earlier cars, unsure yet.
Look for damage to the oil pan and under front bumper, then spare tire
carrier - these ride real low and have looooong over hangs, and
ignoramus maximus' over park them onto parking curbs.
Check prior owner records and ensure it's been serviced, as you would
any car really. Carfax is sometimes moot, check for signs of paintwork
or poor body repair. Seen a lot of that out there on these unfort.
Otherwise, it seems like a great deal and tough to replicate. Remember,
only 100 black '03s imported - pretty cool.
You're relatively local, be on the look out for gtg's here in CT 8-)...
I'm 26 miles from the Pike. You'd make, the 8th or so one on this list
that I can think of, 6 of us were former UrS4/6 owners, one an A8L'er,
and now you a V8'er. They're _fabulous_ cars, if you couldn't already
tell from your test drive. 10k / 6 months in mine have been bliss which
gets better each day despite any of the niggles (it *is* an Audi
remember).
Otherwise, prepare yourself for the inevitable "MUWAHAHAhaaa" as you
bomb down the road @ 7,250 WOT laughing all the while at those not in
the know or that refer to yours as an A8 (like allllll my colleagues).
Oh... and buy some spacers post-haste to rid the infernal ET48 heh heh

extended warranty!!! Never know...
