i got the chance to drive an omni GLH-S. it was rude and crude, but fast. i still remember a car magazine described it as "the amazingly ugly, but wonderfully rapid, dodge omni GLH-S."
trivia question #1: what does GLH stand for?
trivia question #2: what does GLH-S stand for?

I ran in SS racing, then had Arrow Racing in MI build a 225 B&B (non
intercooled) motor for my foray into CSP auto-x. At 2350lbs and 150hp in stock trim
(with Bosch motronic with overboost ala S car), it was the auto-x to beat in
CS and CSP. And IIRC, the CSP GLH turbo won solo nationals in 85 and 86.
In my own cheater machine, with 225hp with 17psi overboost with no IC, the
A008P's got expensive to smoke. I recall sharing that boost number with Ned
when he was doing the 1.8bar mods to the 5ktq's at the time, he stammered on
that a bit!
I also remember in 92 speaking with ned about the 'new' motronic with
overboost in the S4. I reminded him at the time that the GLH turbos had hot wire
bosch motronic overboost in 85 and 86. My favorite C&D quote of the
Scirocco's "the rear seat is only big enough to put your soon to be ex friends" Of
the GLH turbo "BMW had to remove the ad that the 535i was the fastest 4 door
sedan, as the Omni GLH turbo has that honor" and the understatement "when you
step on the go pedal, you best have a firm grip on the wheel"
Audi content: It was seeing the euro TQC's during the Buffum years that got
me into the audi frame of mind. It was trying to put 225hp down in the FWD
GLH turbo that motivated me to actually *buy* a quattro. I enjoyed growing
up that way... kinda. But power to weight in those days was to be envied for
sure!

Of course, A2 GTi's count. I drove an A1 and an A2. The A2 was heavily
modded -- short shift-kitted, lowered, locked and loaded. After losing the
original motor, bought a new 2 liter long block and promptly had it ripped
apart and balanced. Work on the intake side and aftermarket exhaust sans
cats and the motor was putting out about 150hp. Thing was a torque
monster -- you could (legally) drive thru school zones in 5th gear, stand on
it and it would just go.
A 2300 lb. car with 150hp in the mid 80's was not too be ignored and it
pulled many a higher priced car. The handling was pretty amazing, too --
stable, never squirrely and always catchable in the dry, wet and snow. Well,
there was that one time I ended up in the snow bank..........
