Yes... it is an amazing thing. Varon and I went to college together. After maybe 17 years since college, we managed to reconnect on the S-car list. What are the odds? The same rather rare car... a little email interest group...

That little red '80 Scirocco was fun. Big valve head, rather tall cam, supersprint exhaust and tri-y header, and a 5 speed transplanted out of a later VW. It was a fun little car that met its demise due to a small heard of dear along the Mississippi river... the only accident I've ever had... but some good memories, nonetheless.

>>Stunning... I delivered pizzas in a Mars Red 80 S myself in the mid 80s.
Mine was a fun little ride, and one of many VWs I owned.

He also snuck up behind and passed me on twisty uphill road... I was driving
my '76 Celica GT, and despite mashing the accelerator to the floor in 2nd
gear in a vain attempt to prevent being overtaken, there wasn't much I could
do about it.*

I think that was after he had installed headers and a few other mods...
which may have started the same day he bought the car!

*The 95hp Toyota 20R didn't have unlimited power, which was probably good as
I tended to use all the power available... all of the time... would have
lost my license in a week if I'd had anything like the S6 back then. That
Celica was great for road trips... 33mpg cruising @ 80mph.
