Sorry, Tom, but I'm going to have to disagree with your take on mogul
skis. I'm a bump addict (having been coached in the Winter Park
Masters Freestyle program for many years), and I've been skiing almost
exclusively on mogul skis for the past 8 years. In my opinion, the
current generation of "shaped" mogul skis (Dynastar Twister, Rossignol
Scratch Mogul, etc.) are light-years ahead of the old straight skis.
Three years ago, I upgraded from a classic straight mogul ski (Dynastar
Assault) to the new shaped version (Dynastar Twister), and the
difference was like night and day. This is not just my opinion-- ask
any mogul competitor or coach, and they'll tell you the same thing.
Mogul skiing technique has also evolved dramatically to take advantage
of the new skis. Today's competitors use a rounded turn with lots of
knee angulation. This technique makes them smoother and a LOT faster
than the backseat bashers from the '80s and early '90s (a la Edgar
Grospiron).
I'd definitely be up for a //ski fest at Loveland. Please keep me in
the loop. I think that it would be really cool to see a fleet of
S-cars in the Loveland parking lot! I'll bring my non-mogul skis for
this one...
Mandatory Audi content: Mogul skis are like UrS cars. Only a tiny
minority of the general public actually want them, and those people are
most likely JNR.
