Mikey,

I'm surprised you can find the keyboard through the shots of Vodka and
Kirsch heh heh....

Skol!

Hey, FWLIMB on earlier engines, there may also be a relatively simple
mechanical "pin" on the flywheel that also needs to be checked. Perhaps
WG or Scott might fill in the blanks here on this ....? I don't know,
but it
may provide some kind of timing signal without which, no pin, no start!

While I am correct about the CPS being needed to start the car, Mihnea
Cotet
(MRC) has noted on the S2 forum that somehow, it comes back into play at
something over 4000 RPM. I can't confirm that but have to presume that
it is correct. That being true, the CPS could fail after start-up and
then, during a spirited use of the throttle, when the engine goes over
4000 RPM and the ECU notices the CPS is not functioning as required, it
shuts the engine off to save it (that seems unlikely because typically
there is a "limp home" mode so you can at least drive the car to the
side of the road).
But if that is true, when you would go to refire the car, it won't fire
because the ECU does not get the CPS signal that it is okay to trigger
the
J17 fuel pump relay (at least in an UrS car).

Before you tackle the CPS, I would confirm that your fuel pump is
functioning by hard jumping it an measuring 15 sec of output (should be
about 675 mL). Then I would check to see if you have spark at the
coils.
You could have an ECU fuse failure because one of the OE coils shorted
out (the wires get brittle and crack and will short to the cam cover -
which blows the ECU fuse). If you have an otherwise functioning fuel
pump and you have spark, then I guess you have to conclude that its the
CPS. However, it could also be the crank position sensor (are you
running an aluminum flywheel - TMTek has had problems with their sensor
pins).

Too bad you can't pull codes because they do help in situations like
this when there are multiple potential problems/solutions.

Good luck. Keep us up to date.

Well, its seems my A and B code sockets are not hooked up properly. I

can't get any codes.

I read your posts on the S2 Forum and you say that the cps doesn't come

into play under normal driving. That is what I was doing when the car

shut off. I am trying to figure out if I should pull the valve cover
and have a go at the CPS. Any comments?

Thanks,
Dave K.
