[s-cars] what tires to get ?

Tom,

I had ES100's and the Goodyear F1GSD3's. If you liked the ES100's you'll love the F1GSD3's. I bought the Goodyears after reading a pair of Comparo's in some European Magazines, Car & Driver and reading the Tire Rack feedback.

I run street tires at track events, the ES100's didn't fare very well, the sidewalls rolled over quite a bit, they howled after some wear and they chunked a little bit. The Goodyears did much, much, much better. I've got Toyo T1R's on now (the look like they run a bit narrow compared to other advertised widths), I'd place them better than the ES100's but I much prefer the Goodyears, I can't wait to put them back on.

I went for the wet traction rating, I figured that's when I might need the most help getting out of a tough spot.

Good Luck

Hey s-doods...

so I'm tire shopping after my catastrophic failure last week. I thought I had finally decided on the Dunlop Sport Maxx but after reading some of the Audi forums, ditched the idea (too noisy, flatspot easy and hard to keep balanced). Then I was ready to order the Bridgestone RE-01R and the installer is trying to talk me out of these as well... (too stiff a sidewall). wtf? He is strongly suggesting Conti's or Goodyear F1GSD3. I'm trying to stay under $150 a pop or I'd love to try a Michelin, just too steep...

Anyone have experience with any of these ?

I liked the Yoko es100's and I also like the previous Falken fk451's but thought I'd try something different. I've also run various Kumhos on other cars and was not thrilled so probably not go there.

I need two sets. 235/45-17 and 245/40-17.
suggestions ?

cheers,

tom.
