[s-cars] front crank seal (aka crankshaft seal, main seal)

i replaced the seal after getting a bunch of ayes and zero nays.
several people mentioned having the seal start leaking a few months
after they decided not to replace it during a timing belt change.
removal was very easy with the factory seal removal tool.
everything's back together and the car started and ran fine during a
10 minute test-drive.
just one issue: the hood doesn't latch on the driver's side. i'm sure
it has something to do with the removal and reinstallation of the
lock carrier, or the cable, but i'm not sure how to troubleshoot. i
already tried pushing the hood down, and it seems to go down all the way
without latching.
any ideas?
