Darren,

the part you need to check is the latch/lock assembly which is inside
the door itself and latches on the striker.

I'll give you what info I can, I'm not the best at writing up how-to's
so please keep that in mind.

You will need to remove the door panel and the window assembly in order
to gain access to it. The latch/lock is held in place by 2 star screws.
I'll skip door panel removal as it sounds like you know how to do that.

To remove the window assembly you will need to remove the 4 screws
at each "corner" of the door that hold it in place. The bottom right
screw will most likely have an aluminum wedge shaped shim that is used
to adjust the door frame and eliminate (minimize) wind noise.
You will want to mark on the door where each of the screws is now, it
will make it easier in aligning the window assembly to the door when
you reassemble it.

After removeing the window assembly it's pretty straightforward, there
is a rod that goes vertically for the lock knob that you will need to
remove. Be careful, the plastic piece it snaps into is known to pop
out of the latch/lock assembly, you don't want to lose it. You will
also have to disconnect the rod that connects to the exterior door
handle. As I already said, the latch is held in place by the two star
screws, remove them and it should come free.

I followed another lister's advice and soaked my latch in automatic
transmission fluid overnight. About every hour or so I locked/unlocked
and otherwise moved all of the linkage in the latch assembly. After I
was convinced I had removed all of the old dried up grease/corrosion I
regreased it and it work SOOO much better.

installation is reverse of removeal

Sorry if this write up is short, hopefully others can chime
in with their experience/ thoughts.

Chris
