With your list of symptoms, I'd suspect a bad ground (cold solder joint or
broken trace). Get a magnifying glass and go over the PCB traces and solder
joints. Touch up anything that looks funky with a soldering iron. This has
worked for me on previous IP problems. ( I never had any problems on my '94
S4 IP. I sold it last Thursday and the Autocheck display fitzed up a couple
days later. Go figure.) I use Stabilant 22A on all the connectors to ensure
good connections.

Ok, guys, funny but not that helpful.

I do, after all, want to solve my problem without having to order a new
instrument cluster from the stealer. . .

Anyone done any soldering  touch ups for the connections in the I-cluster?
What to look for to determine a bad connection, etc. That's the info I think
I need.
