[s-cars] replacing a coil pack BTDTs

Peter,

I would strongly urge you to use as much of the new wire as you can, and make the connection as close to the POS as possible (i.e. as far away from the head as you can get).

New connectors are available from the dealer, I'd recommend this route if possible. I have heard that if you are careful you might be able to undo the existing connectors at the POS. If you are like me however, and are hamfisted, better to get the new connector (or 2, just in case).

I had soldered connections, and the chaffing would wear thru the shrink fit and electrical tape eventually, leading to arcing.

Regards,

-manny

Gents:

any BTDTs in replacing one of the factory coil packs?
Bentley manual has not been much help.

Previous owner of our silver Avant bought a new coil pack to
replacing a failing #2.
Replacement coil pack came with long leads, no connectors.

Should I reuse all the factory sheathing ( it's in great shape)?

I was thinking of cutting the leads near the bad coil pack, then
attaching them to the new coil pack leads and pulling them through
the factory sheathing, then either splice near the fire wall
connectors, or pulling the old pins from the connectors and replacing
them with the new leads and new pins.

Thanks in advance.
-Peter
