Actually, Lassie is at quite a disadvantage here -- having no opposable thumbs and all. Barking at the squeak will mask the noise, but not actually address the problem.
In my case, the squeal was intermittent and seemed to take care of itself after a while. After the first round of squeaking, it went away for over a year, resurfaced for a short time and now has been quiet for a few years (knock on wood trim). A shot of compressed air (like you can buy for cleaning computer keyboards, etc.) might help. I don't think I'd try spraying any liquids -- somewhere down there is some sort of climate control temperature sensor.

But just how does Lassie rescue the dirt and stop the squealing? Surely disassembly of the entire dash isn't required.
