[s-cars] A/C still sorting

I would think speed sensor. But is this the same engine speed sensor as
feeds the rest of the electronics? If so, then I would think other problems
might show up as well.

Subject: [s-cars] A/C still sorting

All,
Thanks for the previos messages. Here's where I am:

Once again I'm getting this code:
01270 A/C clutch - N25 speed deviation too great

Here's what I've done:

1) Inspect the wiring for the compressor - clutch and
speed sensor - no obvious problem.
2) With the car off, loosen the serp belt, the
compressor wheel spins freely - then run 12 volts to
the compressor - I can here the clutch activate - I
can still turn the compressor - though it feels
different (like I'm actually rotating the compressor
not just the wheel) I then repeated this on my
avant - same result - this leads me to believe that
the compressor is OK - is this sound logic?
3) Inspect serp belt - seems fine and tight
4) Comparrison of the tensioner to the tensioner on my
avant - the avant seems slightly stiffer - could
something this subtle be the culpret? Tesionseems
fine.
5) Inspect the crankshaft vibration dampre - seems OK
- but I'm not sure how it would look if it was
failing.

Next thought is the speed sensor - however if this is
the problem shouldn't I have gotten the "open/short to
B+/SP as the Bently seems to indicate?

So I'm wondering - relpace the speed sensor or the
tensoner or the compressor?
None are free of course...

Thoughts?
thanks
jamie
